Dear DZone Community,

This year has seen a lot of changes for the DZone team. Some of them were hard, but overall, we are ending the year on a very high note with a ton of potential heading into 2023 and beyond.

Throughout the year and throughout the changes, you, our community, has been right there with us and continued to support us and deliver incredible, industry-leading content making DZone one of the best places for developers to gather, learn, share, and grow.

Thank you!

It would be impossible for us to recognize all the great stuff that happened this year, but we wanted to take the time to recognize a few people who really went above and beyond for our community this year.

So, without further ado, here are the 2022 DZone Community Award winners!

Editor’s Pick: Refcards

Winner: Joana Carvalho

DZone’s Refcards are an invaluable resource to developers all over the world, across every discipline. Whether developers are seeking how to get started with a certain technology or best practice, to grow their skills as a developer, or to master a challenging concept, Refcards are a great way to easily digest complex information. What makes Refcards so special and useful is the expert knowledge provided by our community and that’s why we’ve chosen to award one of our best Refcard contributors for 2022. Joana was the author of the popular Refcards, Full-Stack Observability Essentials, and Getting Started With OpenTelemetry. Congratulations to Joana Carvalho as our Editor’s Pick for Refcards this year. Thank you!

Editor’s Pick: Trend Reports

Winner: Boris Zaikin

Trend Reports are designed to help developers understand the most important trends, changes, and improvements across the industry. They help developers gain a better understanding of the current landscape and what to keep an eye on for the near future. Many developers and companies look to the DZone Trend Reports as their source of truth for what’s important for the industry and once again, they would not be what they are without the incredible contributions from our community. Boris wrote insightful articles for the following four Trend Reports this year: DevOps: CI/CD and Application Release Orchestration, Microservices and Containerization: The Intersection of Cloud Architectures and Design Principles, Performance and Site Reliability: Observability for Distributed Systems, and Enterprise Application Security: Building and Securing Resilient Applications. Congratulations to our Editor’s Pick for Best Trend Report Contributor for 2022, Boris Zaikin!

Editor’s Pick: DZone Contributor

Winner: John Vester

DZone’s heart and soul is our website contributors where so many knowledgeable experts from around the world come share their thoughts and experiences for others to learn and grow. We would not be who we are today without our DZone Contributors so thank you to everyone who contributed to our site this year! This award was selected by our editors for a contributor who had at least one article published on DZone in 2022. It was incredibly hard to narrow this down to just one member, but we had to so congratulations to John Vester for being our Editor’s Pick for 2022!

Rising Star: Refcards

Winner: Colin Domoney

Working with new writers and contributors to DZone is one of our favorite parts of our jobs as it gives us a chance to learn from some incredibly knowledgeable people! We had several new writers contribute to our Refcards this year, but one stood out above the rest so congratulations to our Rising Start for Refcards Colin Domoney! He wrote two Refcards for us this year Getting Started with Prometheus and REST API Security Essentials and we can’t wait to see what he’s going to write for us next!

Rising Star: Trend Reports

Winner: Kellyn Gorman

We also had some new contributors to our 2022 Trend Reports and it’s so exciting to see all the great writers out there and meet so many experts in the field. Our Database Trend Report was very well received this year, no doubt in no small part because of her article "Migrate RDBMS Dinosaurs to the Cloud" from our Database Systems: Strategies for Migration, Management, and Data Quality Trend Report. Congratulations to our Rising Star for Trend Reports, Kellyn Gorman!

Rising Star: DZone Contributor

Winner: Rob Austin

We get hundreds of new members and Contributors to DZone every month and sometimes someone will burst on to the scene with an incredible article that really resonates with our community. That was absolutely the case with our Rising Star DZone Contributor this year, Rob Austin! Congratulations! Be sure to check out their profile  on DZone to find their articles. Thank you so much for joining our community and we are looking forward to many more wonderful articles!

Most Viewed Article of 2022

Winner: John Vester

With so many great articles posted to DZone every year, it’s easy to see why so many people come here looking for expert industry knowledge. And this year we had one article that really resonated with our audience and ended up as our Most Viewed Article that published in 2022. Congratulations to John Vester and his article “Exploring the API-First Design Pattern”!

Most Viewed Writer of 2022

Winner: John Vester

The strength of our community is the knowledge of our members so it’s no wonder that so many of our writers rack up hundreds and thousands of page views throughout the year. For this year, we looked back at the one author who had the most views on their articles published in 2022 and the writer who rose to the top was John Vester! Congratulations! Clearly, he has a lot of great knowledge to share to check out his entire list of articles on his profile.
