What is the GDPR?

GDPR is on the lips of business decision-makers everywhere. But what is the GDPR, exactly? GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation. It’s essentially a set of regulations intended to give people in the European Union (EU) more control over how their personal information is used by organizations. The GDPR goes into effect May 25.

Why should I care about the GDPR?

Simply put, if you’re targeting data subjects in an EU country, if you’re monitoring behavior of EU residents, or if you’re regularly doing business within the EU, you’re obligated to be GDPR compliant. If you’re unsure, please consult a legal counterpart.

What is DZone doing about the GDPR regulations?

• We have updated our publicly accessible privacy policy and terms of service, including what personal user information is processed and why.
• We are also issuing data processing agreements with clients and sub-processors, while making that list of sub-processers available. Please reach out to your dedicated Account Manager for any questions
• We have published this FAQ and info request page where you can access and submit requests for GDPR related needs. This link is also accessible from your DZone profile.

Additionally, we have built the ability for our DZone Community Managers to easily:

• Anonymize member PII, data and activity upon member reques
• Delete member data and activity upon member reques
• Query member data and activity for individual data request
• Pull logging info on GDPR-related activity

What do I need to do as a Member of the DZone Community?

If you’re concerned as a member of the DZone.com community, we suggest familiarizing yourself with the GDPR regulations to understand how it affects you. If you would like to request your personal information, please follow the steps outlined in the info request area below.

How can I request my personal info or have my DZone account deleted?

If you would like to have your personal information provided to you or have your account deleted, please email your request to privacy@dzone.com. Our team will process your request and have that information back out to you, but please do allow 3-5 business days for processing.
